Role Description
As Head of Compliance in our Cameroon office, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper implementation and application of applicable laws, regulations, standards, internal rules, and ethical codes.
Working closely with the leadership team, you will oversee operations to ensure compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements. You will safeguard the financial and legal security of the company and its customers and serve as the main point of contact with regulators.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Security
- Define, implement, and update AML/CTF and anti-fraud procedures.
- Draft regulatory specifications for implementation by the technical team.
- Develop and manage transaction and user screening processes.
- Process suspicious activity reports and respond to requests from ANIF.
- Conduct due diligence and enhanced due diligence with potential partners.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulators, partner banks, and MFIs.
2. Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure the KYC process complies with regulatory requirements.
- Monitor regulatory developments and ensure compliance with new standards.
- Develop and update risk mapping and control frameworks.
- Ensure regulatory compliance and customer protection for new products or activities.
- Organize training sessions to promote a strong culture of compliance.
- Analyze vulnerabilities and risks (financial, legal, operational, reputational, etc.).
- Manage and obtain all required regulatory approvals.
3. Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor users against sanctions lists and PEP databases and take appropriate action.
- Maintain and update the compliance universe.
- Implement and execute an annual compliance control plan.
- Document and report non-compliance and fraud incidents.
4. Team Management
- Lead and structure the KYC and compliance team.
- Recruit, define roles, and establish compliance processes.
- Supervise the implementation of ERP compliance software in collaboration with the tech team.
Profile Required
Experience:
5–7+ years of experience in compliance within financial institutions (banks, telcos, payment institutions, MFIs, etc.) in the CEMAC region or internationally. Experience in banking or fintech is a strong advantage.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of KYC, AML/CTF, FATCA/CRS, sanctions frameworks, and related compliance processes.
Language:
Fluency in French and English (essential for interaction with international investors and local regulators).
Knowledge:
Deep understanding of banking compliance, risk management, and local/sub-regional regulatory frameworks.
